The living of 10 Italian islands between land and sea

IN-BETWEEN, as part of the Archipelago project, emphasises the synergic relationship that island communities throughout history have created with their surrounding environment, in particular, with the sea and the land. The exhibition features an Italian selection of the archipelagos mapped by the project, with ten islands belonging to the Tuscan and Campanian Archipelago, the Aeolian, Egadi and Pelagie Islands, and Pantelleria. For the first time, there are six panels identifying the six archipelagos in the exhibition, and six three-dimensional works evoking the mountainous side characterising most of the islands represented. The latter are made of maritime pine bark, a plant that characterises the maritime landscape of the Mediterranean, on a honeycomb cardboard base. The aim of these models is to relate to the public by offering a tactile and material three-dimensional experience, beyond the scale representation, while providing dimensional references.
