MARBLE LIFE
Carrara and Pietrasanta, Italy, 2011
Carrara quarries are among the most famous quarries in the world as they provide pure white marble that is used for the best pieces of art ever. Also Michelangelo Buonarroti was using this marble and was personally going to choose the right block. Life in the Carrara quarries is highly dangerous. Working tools are huge and scary but the surrounding landscape is vast and dazzling white. The white marble is carried by quarry workers from the quarry to the artist workshop, now, as it was centuries ago.
The represented workshop is of Dino De Ranieri in Pietrasanta.
Pictures were taken in 2011.
